Thompson & McDonald depart, but Elliott stays on

Burnley have released striker Steven Thompson and midfielder Kevin McDonald from Turf Moor. The Scottish duo's contracts expire next month and they have not been offered new deals. Clarets boss Eddie Howe paid tribute to the pair for their contributions to the club. "We thank both players for their efforts during their time at Turf Moor and wish them all the best in their future careers," said Howe. Thompson spent almost three seasons with the Clarets following his arrival from Cardiff in August 2008. McDonald joined from Dundee in June 2008 and helped the club to promotion in his first season at Turf Moor. Dutch midfielder Remco Van Der Schaaf, who has been on loan at Danish side Brondby since January 2010, will also be leaving Turf Moor on a permanent basis. Meanwhile, Wade Elliott has agreed a new two-year deal keeping him at the club until June 2013.
