St Mirren have put striker John Sutton's contract talks on hold until the club's SPL status is secure.
The former Millwall and Dundee hit-man has been in impressive form for the Love Street outfit this term.
Despite the club being seven points clear of bottom of the table Dunfermline, boss Guy MacPherson will not offer any deals until they have avoided the drop.
"It's not that we can't talk about contracts until we know what division we will be in next season - we just don't want any hassle," said MacPherson.
"This is not the right time to start speaking to players as it could take their focus away.
"We told John that the most important thing was he was playing regularly and enjoying his football.
"We have six or seven others out of contract and they all understand putting points on the board is top of the agenda.
"There's no doubt the team has made an impact and proved they can compete at this level."
