Derek McInnes was delighted with Aberdeen's turnaround after they fought back to overcome Motherwell and keep the pressure on Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic.

Scott McDonald diverted in Lee Erwin's shot to put the Steelmen deservedly in front at the interval - but visiting goalkeeper George Long could not keep out Ash Taylor's header early in the second half, and he then gifted Adam Rooney the winner soon after.

McInnes, whose side now trail the Hoops by three points after the 2-1 Pittodrie success, said: "There was a change in our demeanour in the second half and that was the biggest thing.

"The players showed exactly in the second half how important the three points were and they deserve so much credit for that."

"It could be the most important three points of the season, you never know."

"We are now in to a 10-game season and we will look to win as many of them as possible. From the last 15 league games, we have lost one, drawn two and won 12 and that is brilliant consistency.".

"If we get anywhere near that in the last part of the season, we will be pleased with our work and we are just determined to finish as strongly as possible."

Motherwell manager Ian Baraclough admitted the outcome was painful but was heartened by his team's first half display.

Baraclough said: "It's a sore one to take because for 45 minutes, that was as good as we have played since I have been here.

"We have shown that we can be a good team and made a very good team in Aberdeen change their system and personnel because they could not get to grips with us.

"All of a sudden, we switched off at a set-piece which has been our Achilles heel and it set us on the back foot and then after a little bit of panic, we find ourselves 2-1 down."
