Motherwell forward John Sutton admits his side still have plenty to improve on despite their 2-1 victory at Ross County on Saturday.

Sutton put Motherwell 2-0 up with a 54th-minute wonder goal to add to Iain Vigurs' impressive strike moments earlier and, even though County pulled a goal back through Liam Boyce, the visitors held out for the points.

That brought to an end a four-match losing streak for Well - who finished third last season in the Scottish Premiership - and doubled their points tally for the campaign, but Sutton believes they can still do much better.

The 30-year-old said: "It was nice to score especially as it was the one that clinched the game for us. I think we can play better but we will take the three points for now and hope we can get a momentum going.

"We haven't played well this season. There were patches when we did okay but we are still not where we want to be.

"It's a important three points but I don't think anyone is satisfied about how things are going."

He added of his goal: "You work on your shooting throughout the week, left and right foot and it just fell to me nicely on my left and I thought I'd have a go, sometimes they come off. I had a good effort in the first half that was inches by the post but nobody remembers that.

"But it was Iain Vigurs' goal that got us going. It was important for us because we have struggled to score this season. It was a brilliant free-kick.

"Ross County acquitted themselves very well, and they will be thinking they were unlucky not to take something out of it."
