Motherwell manager Stuart McCall refused to criticise his players despite suffering a 1-0 defeat to Dundee United at a rain-lashed Fir Park.
Johnny Russell's 84th-minute header snatched all three points for the visitors, but McCall insisted he was satisfied with his side's performance.
The hosts created plenty of chances, although their luck was out when Henrik Ojamaa rattled the woodwork twice.
McCall said: "We'll play a lot worse than that and lose. I found it very difficult to say anything negative other than the result.
"It was two good teams out there. How we have failed to score I don't know."
McCall also claimed Motherwell had strong penalty claims when Jamie Murphy appeared to be barged over by Keith Watson, although the incident may have taken place beyond the byline.
"Maybe because Jamie's not on the park but the boy Watson doesn't get any part of the ball whatsoever," McCall said.
"I'm not saying it was a stonewaller but on another night we might have got it."
