Holdsworth: We deserved win

Manager Dean Holdsworth insists it is onwards and upwards for his Aldershot side after their 2-1 win against AFC Wimbledon.

The Shots had not tasted victory since December 10 having not scored in over 550 minutes of football, but a goal in either half from Anthony Straker - playing at left-back - proved enough for all three points. Sammy Moore's deflected free-kick had levelled matters before half-time. "We have suffered lately and I think I have learnt so much as a manager over the last four or five weeks about desire and commitment from players," said former Wimbledon striker Holdsworth. "It's great when you are having a good time, everyone wants to give you a pat on the back and come to the game but the last month has been tough for everybody. "I have learnt the confidence to carry on doing the right things and believing that what we are doing is the best way to go. "What we have gone through makes the result even more special, we win and lose together and it is an invaluable experience to go through the tough times. "To score the goals is a monkey off our backs. I think we got the rub of the green and deserved the win by a country mile."
