Grenada international is a key man in Aldershot defence

Skysports.com understands Aldershot defender Anthony Straker is being chased by a clutch of Championship clubs. The 22-year-old is in the final year of his contract with the Shots and has yet to agree an extension with the Hampshire-based club. This has triggered the interest of Ipswich, Watford and Coventry who are all keen to recruit the left-back and are monitoring his contract developments. Manager Dean Holdsworth would find it hard to cope with the sale of a player who is such a key component of his back four.

Compensation

But financial realities may dictate he cashes in on the player, rather than seeing him leave the Recreation Ground for just a compensation fee in the summer. Straker has made over 150 appearances for Holdsworth's team and has established himself as one of the leading full-backs in League Two. His talent has also been recognised at international level where he gained caps at Under-18 level with England, and was later called up by both Barbados and Grenada, before opting to represent the country of his mother's birth, Grenada. During the summer he further cemented his place in their national team by playing all of Grenada's games in this summer's Gold Cup in America.
