Motherwell defender Brian McLean's injury is worse than first feared.
It was initially thought McLean would be sidelined for three months after suffering a knee injury last weekend against Hearts.
Further scans have shown that McLean has sustained a cruciate ligament injury which will rule him out for the rest of the season.
Motherwell boss Maurice Malpas admitted the injury was a major blow to the player and club.
"He has damaged the cruciate and will have an operation. He will be out for the rest of the season," said Malpas.
"It's a big blow for the club, but it's also a massive blow for the player.
"He has had a bad time with injuries this season, so it's hard on him."
