Inverness Caledonian Thistle manager John Hughes has landed the Premiership manager of the month award for January.

Caley Thistle were unbeaten in their six league matches during that period and are currently third in the standings - a position which would guarantee them a ticket to the Europa League preliminaries should they still be there in May.

Since winning at rivals Ross County on New Year's Day, Hughes' side accounted for St Mirren, Kilmarnock, St Johnstone and Hamilton Academical and also drew with County in Inverness.

They have also advanced to the Scottish Cup quarter-finals, beating Partick Thistle to secure a tie against  Raith Rovers in the last eight.

In a further boost for the Caley Thistle, central defender Josh Meekings has agreed a new two-year contract at the Caledonian stadium.

The former Ipswich Town youth player's partnership with Gary Warren has been instrumental in the club's impressive recent run. The 22-year-old, who was signed by former boss Terry Butcher four years ago, was out of contract this summer.

Hughes said: "He is a massive player. He's a fantastic passer, has a great range, he is very quick for a centre-half. I know there were a lot of big teams sniffing about him so I'm delighted he has committed his future to the club for another two years."
