Inverness manager John Hughes knew there was no need to panic after his side suffered three consecutive defeats - and he was proved right on New Year's Day.

Caley Thistle cruised to a 3-1 away win over Ross County on Thursday after following a shock 4-0 home defeat by Partick Thistle with narrow losses to St Johnstone and Aberdeen.

Hughes felt his men deserved something from the two games against their top-six rivals in the Scottish Premiership and his unchanged team repaid that faith at the Global Energy Stadium.

Hughes said: "We are not too far away. Experience tells you that, we have been here, we are not too far away and I don't have to go looking for that magic formula.

"The boys are all brave footballers, they want to get on the ball and pass it. I felt for long periods of the game we totally dominated the football, which gives you the opportunity to create chances."

Hughes, whose side host St Mirren on Sunday, added: "There's not too much wrong. It was a real poor performance against Partick Thistle, but take nothing away from them. We weren't too far away against St Johnstone and Aberdeen so you have to trust the boys and let them do it.

"With the character and spirit in the dressing room, they want to go and succeed.

"That will kick-start us again and hopefully we can get on a run. I take winning the same as losing, I don't get carried away, and any team in the league, from the top to the bottom, is capable of beating each other, so you have to make sure you are at it in every game."
