Manager John Hughes believes there is more to come from his Inverness side after watching them beat Dundee United 1-0 at the Caledonian Stadium.

Marley Watkins scored the only goal of the game as Caley climbed into second spot in the Scottish Premiership on goal difference behind leaders Hamilton.

We needed to be a bit more clinical with our half-chances but everyone to a man did their job.

The Highland club have held out for 1-0 wins in consecutive games and Hughes expects more to come from his side.

"I have seen us play better than that," said Hughes. "In the last couple of weeks we've not really been at it but we've shown spirit and character.

"We've worked very hard on the training pitch and everyone here knows what is required and knows what our demands are.

"It's a right good Dundee United side we've come up against and you know that with any half-chance they're going to put it in the back of the net.

"Our ball retention was very good. If I'm being critical, we needed to be a bit more clinical with our half-chances. But everyone to a man did their job."

Dundee United boss Jackie McNamara felt his side played with too much fear and was at a loss to explain why.

"For the first 15 minutes we started the game well and were unlucky not to score," he said. "But it's disappointing to concede from the first attack and the way it's been scored.

"A lot of fear came into our play and in the second half, it was very much warrant and acceptance, rather than getting out there and doing something about it.

"The fear was worrying, in our passing and the simple things that we weren't able to do. That seemed to be a problem today."
