Scotland international given probation order after admitting Glasgow attack

Blackburn striker David Goodwillie has been handed a 12-month probation order for assaulting a man in Glasgow city centre. The Scotland international was also given 80 hours of unpaid work after pleading guilty to the attack on John Friel. Goodwillie admitted repeatedly punching Mr Friel on the head and body, and kicking him, in the November 2010 attack. Sentencing at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday, Sheriff Stuart Reid said the 23-year-old had not been "deterred" by a fine and compensation order for a previous assault conviction less than 12 months before the incident involving Mr Friel. The player was told he must demonstrate good behaviour during the probation period and will be supervised by a local authority officer.
