Hibernian have agreed a deal to sign John Rankin from SPL rivals Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Midfielder to leave Inverness for capital

Hibernian have agreed a deal to sign John Rankin from SPL rivals Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Inverness accepted an undisclosed offer from Hibs earlier on Thursday and Rankin headed to Easter Road for talks. The 24-year-old has settled on personal terms and has also passed a medical to link up with Mixu Paatelainen's squad. Rankin had been looking to leave Inverness, having scored nine goals in 55 appearances for the club since joining from Ross County in 2006. St Mirren failed with a £45,000 offer earlier this month, but Hibernian have come up with a suitable deal to persuade Inverness to sell. The transfer could be finalised in time for Rankin to make his debut for Hibs in the Edinburgh derby against Hearts this weekend.
