Dundee United striker Jon Daly is set to miss the start of next season because of injury.
The 24-year-old picked up a knee injury during last weekend's draw with Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
Scans have confirmed United's worst fears that it is a cruciate ligament injury and the former Hartlepool man faces up to six months on the sidelines.
United boss Craig Levein admitted it was a major blow to lose Daly.
"Jon has torn the posterior cruciate so is likely to be out for between four and six months," Levein told the Daily Record.
"It's a massive blow for us because he's been doing really well and has added another dimension to the team with his workrate and application.
"I really feel for him because he's come here determined to make an impact so this setback is a real sickener."
