A seven-goal thriller at Raydale Park saw Gretna edged out of the Scottish Cup by Dundee United.

Barry Robson, Mark Kerr, Mark Wilson and Stevie Crawford were all on the scoresheet for United as they overcame Gretna 4-3, with Kevin Deuchar, Mark Birch and Gavin Skelton on target for the hosts.

Gretna were hopeful of a shock going into the twice-postponed game but were three goals down to their SPL opposition within 21 minutes.

Robson was on hand to head home Mark Kerr's cross in the third minute, and Kerr added a second with a fine volley soon after.

Jamie McQuilken's hand ball enabled Mark Wilson to add a third from the penalty spot, but Gretna got a lifeline when Deuchar converted after Bryan Gilfallan's shot was parried.

Gretna's second came from the penalty spot, with Mark Birch converting, but United restored a two-goal cushion through Crawford.

But the excitement was far from over and Gretna grabbed a third through Skelton's 30-yard drive to make it a nervous finish for the Dundee side.

But it was United that held on - and they move through to play Queen of the South in the Fourth Round.
