DUNDEE UNITED manager Paul Hegarty is glad that star striker Steven Thompson has attracted interest from other clubs, but is determined to keep him at Tannadice.

The 24-year-old has impressed this season with his performances for both club and country, with his display's drawing interest from Scotland and England.

Scouts have already been at the club casting an eye over the Scottish international but Hegarty insists that is a good thing, as it is a sign of his quality.

"To me it is a healthy situation when an interest is being shown in any of the players here as it makes us realise that there is some quality at the club," said Hegarty.

"Representatives are welcome to come and watch Steven or his team-mates at any time, it is a compliment."

With his current contract expiring at the end of the season, Rangers, Tottenham and Everton are all eyeing Thompson, but the manager is determined to keep him at the club.

"We want to keep Steven and we will be talking to him in the foreseeable future to offer him a healthy package," added Hegarty.
