Hibernian manager Alan Stubbs was happy enough with his players' efforts in their 2-0 League Cup victory against Ross County at Global Energy Stadium, but felt his side could have played a lot better.

Dominque Malonga netted twice for Hibs in the first half with close-range headers from deep crosses which exposed the County defence.

Stubbs said: "We scored two really good goals. They were really well taken and it gave us a platform to build on.

"We've played better and lost, that's no disrespect to Ross County. But I think we played well and no-one could say we didn't deserve to win the game."

Stubbs was particularly happy with his side's defensive display.

He added: "I thought we defended much better as a team, we coped with a lot of the crosses that came in by being in the right positions.

"I still think we can get better - we could have put the game to bed earlier but it was a night of positives all round."

County boss Jim McIntyre is still waiting for his first win and was disappointed his side are still gifting goals.

He said: "I thought we started the game really well. We had a real go at Hibs but what we are not doing at the moment is putting the final touch to it.

"When you are not defending at the other end it is a recipe for not winning football matches.

"We had numerous crosses into the box, we had lots of attacking play but we need to be getting across their defenders and get the final touch when the opportunity presents itself.

"But until we stop gifting goals, like on Saturday and again tonight, then you are going to struggle to win football matches."
