Wigan midfielder James McCarthy has tipped Fraser Fyvie to be the latest arrival from Scotland to make an impact at the DW Stadium.
Fyvie signed from Aberdeen earlier this month and is following a similar route to McCarthy who joined the Latics as a teenager from Hamilton.
The Republic of Ireland international has already been giving Fyvie advice and believes the Scot could be a real asset to Wigan.
McCarthy told the club's
official website: "I had to wait six months to get a chance and coming down from Scotland was a bit tough for me because I was moving away from home, but I've come in and settled really well and I love it here.
Different
"It's different from the Scottish game because the tempo is a lot higher and when you come here you have to compete against big-name players.
"I've said to Fraser already just to take his time and he knows it will take time.
"He's a good lad and after meeting him for the first time he seems like the sort of person who will settle in really well here.
"He's done well with us today but once he's training with us more he'll really kick on.
"I've always thought he is a great talent and obviously I'm delighted that he is here and I'm sure he'll come in and do well because he's looking sharp in training.
"Aberdeen started a couple of weeks earlier than us so he has got that little bit extra coming in and he's looking really good."
Competition
Fyvie will provide more competition for places at Wigan but McCarthy is comfortable with the situation.
"It's always good to have competition in the position you play in because it makes you push yourself and keeps you on your toes," he added.
"It isn't easy to get a place in the team and you need to work really hard in training, which is something I'm happy to do because I always want to give it my best shot.
"Obviously, it's down to the gaffer to pick the players but it is also down to us because we have to show that we want to be there and make it difficult for the gaffer to choose between us."
