Baggies boss looking forward to working with promising midfielder

Roy Hodgson is closing in on the capture of Dundee United's Scott Allan and claims the midfielder would be an 'interesting signing' for West Brom. The Baggies had a £300,000 offer accepted in December and are in the process of tying up the loose ends to that deal. It is hoped that a transfer will be pushed through some time next week, with Hodgson keen to bring the highly-rated 20-year-old on board. He said: "I've met him today (Friday). He would turn out to be a very interesting signing if he passes a medical, the other negotiations go well and he decides we are the club for him. "We are really looking forward to working with him. It is great to have attracted such an interesting young talent. "I believe he has got other options but I'm hoping the conversations he's had with Dan Ashworth (technical director) and myself have gone well. "I'm sure he's not down here just to waste his time. I'm very hopeful that come next week I'll be able to welcome him into the training session as our player."

Staying

While Hodgson is close to bolstering his ranks with the addition of Allan, he has moved to rule out the prospect of Simon Cox being allowed to leave the club. The out-of-favour forward has hinted that he may look for a move after struggling for first-team opportunities but Hodgson says he is keen to keep him on board. He added: "Simon is not one of the players I would be happy to see leave the club. "He is not a player on my list to let go. If Manchester City or someone like that comes in and offer a lot of money, who knows. But it would certainly take offers we can't refuse."
