Williams not making excuses

Colchester goalkeeper Ben Williams reflected honestly on Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Carlisle, admitting "the best team won".

Williams made several impressive saves to keep the home side at bay and dealt admirably amid gale-force winds at Brunton Park, but could do nothing to keep out Paul Thirlwell's strike midway through the first half. "Conditions were difficult, but we can't make excuses like that," Williams told the Green'Un. "We didn't create enough chances and I think the best team won on the day. "If you pardon the pun, Carlisle weathered the storm quite well. They dealt with the conditions well in the first half, scored on the break, and that knocked the momentum out of us. "But we played a lot better in the second half and were more positive."
