Carlisle United boss Greg Abbott is hoping to quickly finalise a deal to keep Chelsea midfielder Tom Taiwo on loan for the rest of the season.
Taiwo has made 27 appearances during the first half of the campaign for Carlisle, but his initial loan expires after Monday's League One game at Tranmere Rovers.
Abbott wants the teenager back in his plans for the FA Cup third-round tie with Everton at the weekend and has been discussing an extension with Chelsea.
However, the Cumbrians chief acknowledged that time is running out for the club to prolong Taiwo's stint at Brunton Park.
"We are going to reopen talks after the Tranmere game and see where they take us," Abbott told the News & Star.
"I am always hopeful, but confidence is a word you can easily use and then find you get smashed in the face.
"We are coming towards the end of the line in terms of time limits on both sides, so we need to wrap it all up as quickly as possible."
