Carlisle United boss Greg Abbott is hoping he will soon be in a position to conclude deals to keep Adam Clayton, Tom Taiwo and Vincent Pericard at the club.

Manchester City midfielder Clayton's current loan deal is due to expire in January and Chelsea's Taiwo is set to stay until December, and Abbott is keen on keeping them both at Brunton Park.

Abbott is also in contract talks with former Portsmouth and Stoke striker Pericard, whose short-term deal runs out next month.

The Cumbrians chief told the club's official website: "We hope to be able to make an announcement as soon as possible on all three of them but, at the moment, the talks are ongoing.

"Obviously the Manchester City situation has slowed things down there, as we need to be able to speak to the new management team about Adam.

"In addition to that, the Chelsea people that we needed to talk to about Tom were all away at the Champions League draw.

"It should all be resolved soon one way or another, but we just have to be a little bit more patient."
