Hibernian boss John Collins has stripped Kevin Thomson of the captaincy at Easter Road.

Thomson's future at the club has been the subject of intense speculation in recent months, with the midfielder unhappy with his current contract.

The 23-year-old has been seeking a new improved deal, but Hibs are refusing to meet his or team-mate Scott Brown's demands.

Collins says he has taken the decision to take the captain's armband off Thomson, so that he can focus on his football.

"I think it is important for Kevin Thomson to focus on his own game," said Collins.

"I don't expect any problems with Kevin in the future and the most important thing is that he is on the park.

"I gave him my explanation, which is that I want to release him from anything else other than playing football and he accepted it."

Rob Jones has been awarded the captaincy at Hibs and Collins believes he will do a good job as skipper.

"Rob is my choice because he is a good talker and a good communicator," added Collins.
