Hibernian have failed in their appeal to have Dean Shiels' red card against Hearts rescinded.
Shiels was sent-off during Hibernian's 3-2 defeat to Hearts on Boxing Day.
The Northern Ireland youngster was adjudged to have punched Hearts goalkeeper Craig Gordon as he tried to retrieve the ball after scoring from the penalty spot.
Hibs lodged an appeal against the sending off, but the after reviewing video footage the Scottish Football Association have confirmed the dismissal will stand.
In a statement, the SFA said: "The player had been sent off for colliding with the Heart of Midlothian goalkeeper Craig Gordon with excessive and unnecessary force.
"His arms had been raised to around Gordon's chest and neck area in the course of the collision. Dean Shiels is therefore suspended for his club's home match against Dunfermline Athletic."
It means that Shiels will miss this weekend's clash with Dunfermline this weekend.
