Hibernian boss Tony Mowbray is looking for Scotland international defender Gary Caldwell to make a decision on his future by the end of the week.

Caldwell has travelled over to Holland for a trial with Vitesse Arnhem, but he could still have a future at Easter Road.

Hibs manager Mowbray said: "I've had a good chat with Gary and if he feels that is something he wants to do, that's fine.

"It's his prerogative and we have no problem with him having a look over there.

"But we need him to make a decision on his future by the end of the week, one way or the other."

Caldwell is looking to impress Vitesse coach Edward Sturing over the course of the next week.

"My agent had sent tapes of me to Vitesse and they liked what they saw and asked me over for a week's trial," Caldwell told The Daily Record.

"I spoke to the gaffer and he was very good about letting me go.

"I only arrived this afternoon (Monday) but the club have a few pre-season matches they intend to play me in this week, which will give us the chance to have a proper look at each other."

Dean Gordon, meanwhile, has linked up with Hibs for a trial following his release from Coventry.

Mowbray is looking for a new defender and has opted to take a look at Gordon.
