A late own goal denied Hibernian a vital three points against Motherwell on Wednesday as they battle to avoid the drop.

The Easter Road side seemed set for a comfortable evening when Kevin Nicol had them in front on six minutes and they were cruising seven minutes before the break when Alan Reid headed home.

Well got back into the game minutes after the interval when Keith Lasley netted with the aid of a deflection and they were level on the hour when Derek Adams scored from the penalty spot.

Motherwell were on level terms for just two minutes, however, as Hibernian were awarded a penalty of their own and Derek Riordan (pictured) held his nerve to slot home.

The visitors would not be denied and their pressure was rewarded when Hibs turned the ball into their own net on 80 minutes.

Dundee United snatched a late 3-2 victory from their trip to Livingston.

United took an early lead through Jason Scotland, but Livi were level at the break thanks to a goal from David McNamee.

The home side raised their game after the break and duly took the lead through Scott McLaughlin on 72 minutes.

Dundee United dug deep and levelled through Collin Samuel and the comeback was complete eight minutes from time when Jim McIntyre found a winner on 82.
