Southend United defender Sean Clohessy has signed a one-year contract extension at Roots Hall.

The defender, who had 12 months remaining on his current deal, will now remain at United until the summer of 2013. "Sean played in every game for us last season and put in consistent performances," manager Paul Sturrock told the club's official website. "I felt his form was deserving of a longer deal and I am pleased to say that we have managed to secure another asset." Sturrock added: "We are trying to build something here and that is why it was important the likes of Ryan Hall, Lee Sawyer and Kane Ferdinand were sorted before the end of the season. "Along with Luke (Prosser) and Glenn (Morris) this week we have done some good business in getting our existing squad signed up nice and early."
