Kilmarnock have handed a new contract to young midfielder Gary McDonald.

Kilmarnock have handed a new contract to young midfielder Gary McDonald.

The 22-year-old is rated as one of the best youngsters in Scottish football and Killie have moved quickly to hand him a new 18-month deal.

"Contract negotiations have been going on for a couple of weeks with Gary and he was always committed to extending his deal, but it was just down to the length of the term," said Killie manager Jim Jefferies.

"Hopefully now details have been settled Gary can concentrate fully on playing issues."

McDonald is the second player to commit his future to Rugby Park within the last week, after Peter Leven also signed a new deal.

Meanwhile, Kilmarnock have told Eric Joly he can leave the club.

Joly is now in talks with Belgian side KV Oostende.

Striker Paul Di Giacomo is also being allowed to leave the club on loan, while Mark Canning and Mickael Wolski have been released.

Jefferies has also played down reports he was set to make a move for Dundee United winger Andy McLaren.
