Hearts have secured the future of one of their brightest prospects after Jordan McGhee signed a new two-year deal.

The 18-year-old defender's contract was due to expire in the summer but his new deal will keep him at Tynecastle until the summer of 2017.

The academy product has featured regularly for the first team this season and scored a couple of goals for the runaway Scottish Championship leaders.

McGhee made his debut at the age of 16 against St Mirren and he has established himself as a regular in the Scotland U21 squad that was managed by Billy Stark until his departure in November.

Head coach Robbie Neilson told Hearts News: “Jordan is one of the top prospects in the Scottish game.

“It is good to get his future tied down and this gives him time to develop.

“He has already played a lot of games for Hearts and done well and he will continue to be part of the team.”
