Kilmarnock have opened talks with Alan Combe over a new deal at Rugby Park.

Manager keen to keep custodian

Kilmarnock have opened talks with Alan Combe over a new deal at Rugby Park. Combe has established himself as a key member of Jim Jefferies' side since joining the club from Bradford four years ago. The 34-year-old has been in fine form this season, leading to calls from Jefferies for the keeper to be called into the Scotland squad. Jefferies is keen to resolve Combe's future, with the shot-stopper's current contract expiring at the end of the season. "We've had a brief chat with Alan about a new deal and he'll think about it," Jefferies told the Daily Record.

Option

"His contract is up at the end of the season but we have the option of another year so we are just trying to get it all tied up. "These things can drag on for a few meetings but we'd like to get it tied up quickly. Everyone appreciates the form Alan has been in. "He's been unlucky not to get a shout from Scotland. "There's not a keeper alive that doesn't lose daft goals because it's a hard job but Alan has pulled us out of holes more often than he has cost us."
