Uncapped Hearts captain Christophe Berra has been called up to the Scotland squad to face South Africa in their upcoming friendly.
The news comes in a successful period for the 22-year-old defender who just last week was awarded captaincy at Hearts following the departure of former skipper Craig Gordon to Sunderland.
Berra has initially been brought in as cover to Russell Anderson, Gary Caldwell, Stephen McManus and Steven Pressley but could win a first cap.
Speaking of the news, Berra told Hearts News: "I am delighted to be called up for my first full cap.
"To be part of the Scotland squad and hopefully I can show what I have to offer. I am looking forward to the experience and meeting the other guys.
"I'd like to thank the coaching staff at Hearts who have really helped me develop as a player in the last 12 months."
Assistant boss Stephen Frail spoke on behalf of himself and Alex McLeish when he added: "It is great for Christophe and it is a reward for the performances that he put in last season.
"It is a boost for everyone at Hearts."
