BOTH SPL sides progressed in the Scottish League Cup, as Dundee beat Queen of the South and Hearts saw off a stubborn Stirling Albion challenge.

Dundee had things relatively easy at Dens Park, winning 3-1, but Hearts had to come from behind to beat their division three opponents.

Juan Sara scored a brace before the break for Dundee, with Fabian Caballero (pictured) netting the third.

The visitors briefly gave themselves hope with Peter Weatherson`s fine goal on 28 minutes, but they could not get a second to worry Jim Duffy`s side.

Hearts, though, had a far tougher task as Stevie Mallan gave Stirling an early lead with a good header.

Andy Kirk equalised, with Jean-Louis Valois scoring from long range to put them in front.

Stirling sensed a shock was on the cards when Steven Nicholas levelled, but Steven Pressley eased Hearts` nerves with the winner from the penalty spot on 65 minutes.
