Dundee boss Paul Hartley praised his players' fighting spirit after their dramatic 2-1 win over Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup at Dens Park.

The home side booked their place in the fifth round after a last-minute winner from David Clarkson, after Thomas Konrad had given them an early lead.

Konrad, however, put through his own net to allow the Dons to draw level and Hartley admitted his side would have settled for a replay.

He said: "Over the moon. We were looking to settle for a draw there. We had to really dig deep to get that result.

“The composure Clarkson showed was fantastic and I'm delighted for my group of players."

Hartley also highlighted the performance of goalkeeper Scott Bain, adding: "He had some great saves.

“He showed his worth and overall it was a real team performance."

Meanwhile, Dons manager Derek McInnes said his side were punished for not being lethal enough in front of goal.

He stressed: "There was a lot of brilliant play from us but we paid the ultimate price for a lack of execution.

"Credit to Dundee because they hung in but they were outplayed, I thought.

"We played very well and should be talking about the pace we bring, the flow of our attacks and the way we played.

"We have worked the goalkeeper but there are times we haven't worked him enough. We fell short with our final ball at times.

"We would have been kicking ourselves for not winning so it's even worse having lost."
