Aberdeen defender Ryan Jack will require surgery on a fractured foot and is expected to be out until the end of January, the club have confirmed.

The 20-year-old picked up the injury while captaining Scotland under-21s for the first time in Friday's 2-0 defeat by the United States in a challenge match in Spain.

A statement on Aberdeen's official website read: "Ryan Jack has this morning been to see a specialist to assess the foot injury he suffered while away with Scotland Under 21s.

"Following consultation it was confirmed the fracture will require surgical repair.
