Celtic, Motherwell and Hibernian all progressed past the fifth round of the Scottish Cup as Aberdeen and St Mirren almost suffered shock defeats.

Celtic eased past Inverness with a 2-0 win at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium with goals from Georgios Samaras and Scott Brown.

Samaras opened the scoring for Celtic after getting on the end of a Kris Commons through ball to smash in on 33 minutes.

Celtic skipper Brown doubled the lead by finishing from the penalty spot on 67 minutes after David Proctor had fouled Gary Hooper.

Motherwell smashed Morton 6-0 at Fir Park to cruise into the next round.

Tom Hateley opened the scoring on nine minutes, Jamie Murphy grabbed a brace, while Shaun Hutchinson, Henrik Ojamaa and Nicky Law also netted for the home side.

Hibernian booked their place in the quarter-finals with a 1-0 win at home against Kilmarnock with a goal from Eoin Doyle on 15 minutes.

Ross County missed the opportunity go through after missing a penalty in the final minute to draw 1-1 with St Mirren.

Aberdeen and Queen of the South will also need a replay after playing out a 1-1 draw at Pittodrie.

Elsewhere Ayr United v Falkirk fell victim to the weather and was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
