St Mirren have been rocked by the news that Kenny McLean has been ruled out for six weeks.
The Scotland Under-21 international suffered a broken collarbone in a training-ground collision on Thursday.
The 20-year-old has been one of manager Danny Lennon's key figures this season and was named the SPL's young player of the month in October.
He is now set to miss five league games, beginning with Saturday's trip to Inverness, as well as next week's Scottish Cup fifth-round tie at home to Ross County.
"It was just an accidental collision with one of the young players," said McLean.
"The physio took me to hospital and the X-ray showed that I had a broken collarbone.
"I will be out for six weeks but these things happen and you just need to get on with it.
"I can't do anything for a week or two, until the sling comes off, then we will see if I can do some jogging. But hopefully I will be back soon enough."
Disappointing
McLean had missed just three league games so far this season, scoring three goals in 21 appearances.
"It is very disappointing," said Buddies boss Lennon. "Kenny has been doing terrifically well for us and he will be a sad loss over the period he misses.
"But he's young and it seems a straightforward healing process so we wish him a speedy recovery."
