Aberdeen manager Craig Brown has confessed his team face a fight to avoid being relegated for the first time in the club's long history.
The Dons, Celtic and Rangers are the only teams which have never been relegated from top-flight Scottish football but, despite this, Brown has seen his side plummet to second bottom of the Scottish Premier League table after only three wins in 14 games this season.
The Reds have only managed to pick up one point and score one goal away from home this season and Brown knows this is not good enough as he targets more competitiveness from his players.
"Our position in the league is not good enough for a club like Aberdeen. There is huge pressure on us to take all the points from most of the games we have up to the end of the year," said Brown.
"We're in a dogfight to steer clear of bottom spot already and let's not kid ourselves otherwise. None of the clubs from fourth down can afford to be complacent because we're all under threat.
"It's those who show the stomach to fight for their future in this league that will get to a position of safety. I appreciate the privilege of working for Aberdeen and the players also have to show that by giving their all then a bit more.
"We will start by improving the squad even further as soon as we have the opportunity. It'd be great to have a more prolific scorer to take the burden off Scott Vernon."
