Inverness Caledonian Thistle are hopeful Adam Rooney will pen a new deal after putting a 'very good offer' to him.
The striker's current contract is set to expire at the end of the season, at which point he would become a free agent.
Caley, though, are confident they can persuade him to agree fresh terms and prolong his association with the club.
Rooney has been with Inverness since signing from Stoke in 2008, scoring 46 goals in 100 appearances.
He has become an important part of the club's first-team plans and manager Terry Butcher is determined to avoid seeing the 22-year-old slip through his grasp at this juncture.
"Adam has been made a very good offer," he stated in the
Inverness Courier.
Commitment
"I know he loves it here and certainly the system we play revolves around him.
"I spoke to a few of the Rangers coaching staff after Saturday's game and they were all waxing lyrical about how good Adam is in terms of the effort and commitment he gives throughout a match.
"The grass is not always greener on the other side. If he moves just now then he has to adjust to a new coaching team as well as new team-mates.
"If he stays with us and continues to smash in the goals, however, then there is no doubt he'll get a move.
"I know he is enjoying his football at Caley Thistle, so both myself and his team-mates will keep on at him and hopefully between us we can convince him to stay.
"He's a very level-headed lad and quite relaxed about the whole situation and so am I, but there's no doubt I would like it sorted out sooner rather than later."
