Davies linked with double swoop

Nottingham Forest have been linked with a double defensive swoop in the shape of Mark Reynolds and Nicky Shorey. Forest boss Billy Davies is said to be interested in both players as he looks to bolster his squad for a renewed effort towards promotion from the Championship. Shorey, 29, has fallen out of favour at Aston Villa which has brought about interest from a number of clubs. The Reds are said to be prepared to pay a fee for his services, alongside Motherwell central defender Reynolds who has been strongly linked with a move away from Fir Park.

A step in the right direction

Motherwell boss Craig Brown, who worked alongside Davies during his time in Scotland, says a move to the City Ground would be hugely beneficial for Reynolds. "I think Nottingham would be excellent for him," Brown told the Nottingham Post. "We would lose a terrific player but it would give us funds to strengthen the team. Without Mark going, we can't sign anyone." He added: "Billy and I are very friendly and he hasn't discussed Mark with me. "That doesn't mean to say he won't, but he hasn't so far. "I know their two centre-backs and I think that he is at least as good if not better than them - that's my considered and humble opinion."
