Goalkeeper set to return to England

Middlesbrough are considering offering a deal to Nicky Weaver, skysports.com understands. The former Manchester City goalkeeper is currently a free agent after his short-term deal with Dundee United expired. Weaver, 30, signed for United after leaving Charlton in the summer as cover because there were issues over the signing of Slovakian Dusan Pernis. But Pernis arrived early in the New Year, meaning Weaver was allowed to depart. Now Gordon Strachan is again looking north of the border for a signing. His first three permanent deals were all from his previous club Celtic and now Weaver could be set to become the fourth new addition in the space of a week. Since arriving at the Riverside, Strachan has dropped Australia international Brad Jones after some less-than inspiring performances and that has left him with Welsh veteran Danny Coyne. Strachan is now ready to take Weaver on a free transfer to bolster his options.
