Gillingham boss Mark Stimson is hoping to bring Colchester United striker Scott Vernon back to the club for a second loan stint.

The 26-year-old had a brief spell with the Gills in October, but he damaged his ankle ligaments just 43 minutes into his first game for the club.

Stimson has since kept tabs on Vernon's progress and has now been in touch with the Colchester frontman's agent about making a new approach.

He told the Kent News: "I've spoken to his representative to see if Scott would still like to come back because we'd take him.

"He's quite interested, but we're going to let him get through the reserve game and see what happens.

"I think he was very good in the time we had him and is experienced at this level. Hopefully by the middle of the month he would've played some football."
