Aberdeen believe they are winning the race to claim veteran striker Craig Brewster's signature.

The Dons hope to have beaten Kilmarnock and St Mirren to the 40-year-old's signature as they look to strengthen their squad to help their battle for a Uefa Champions League spot.

Brewster, who has been out of the game since ending his unsuccessful stint as player-manager at Dundee United in October, is now keen to resume his playing career.

And it is thought he would be keen to head to Pittodrie to link up again with manager Jimmy Calderwood, after the pair built up a strong relationship during their time together at Dunfermline.

"We've been monitoring the situation and hope to speak to him next week," Calderwood told the Daily Record.
