Dons sign Finnish duo

Aberdeen have signed Finnish duo Mikko and Markus Paatelainen.

Aberdeen have signed Finnish duo Mikko and Markus Paatelainen.

The brothers of former Dons striker Mixu Paatelainen have impressed Pittodrie boss Jimmy Calderwood during trials at the club.

The FC Allianssi pair have signed short-term deals to keep them at the club until the end of the season.

'"The Paatelainen brothers have been doing well in training and we will wait and see if they are in the squad for the game against Hearts," said Calderwood.

"Mikko is similar in style to his older brother Mixu while Markus can play wide on either wing.

"I wanted to have a longer look to see what they are capable of and keeping them here until May will allow me to do that."

Calderwood has also revealed that he is keen on signing Dundee striker Fabian Caballero.

Caballero is on a short-term deal at Dens Park and Calderwood is hoping that Dundee would be willing to let him go before the close of the transfer window.

"I spoke to Jim Duffy several days ago about the possibility of signing Fabian and he promised to get back to me. That's the position at the moment.

"He's a player I admire because of his skill. I was interested in signing him before but he had several representatives and I was unable to make any progress.

"My understanding is that Caballero did very well for Dundee against Hearts last week. This perhaps explains why Jim hasn't been in touch so far.

"Maybe they want the Dundee derby out of the way first but we can get the deal done after that if they want. There is still time to beat the transfer deadline."

The Dons have also made a new bid for long-term target Barry Nicholson and are waiting on Dunfermline to see if their offer has been accepted.

"Willie Miller has been negotiating with Jim Leishman and we're now waiting for an answer from Dunfermline. Then I hope we can take the deal further," added Calderwood.

Meanwhile, young Dons defender Andrew Considine has inked a new deal at Pittodrie to keep him at the club until 2007.
