Greeks eyeing Finnish Don

Olympiakos may be set to make a summer move for unsettled Aberdeen midfielder Markus Heikkinen.

Olympiakos may be set to make a summer move for unsettled Aberdeen midfielder Markus Heikkinen.

Reports in Scotland are suggesting the Athens club want to seal a pre-contract agreement with the former HJK Helsinki and Portsmouth player.

The news comes after the Finland international refused to extend his deal beyond the end of this season at Pittodrie.

The 26-year-old (pictured) has struggled to settle in The Granite City and a summer move to Greece could be on the cards for the Scandinavian, who was linked with a move to English Championship side Plymouth Argyle.

With Heikkinen set to leave The Dons, manager Jimmy Calderwood has given Dunfermline Athletic defender Richie Byrne a deadline of Monday lunchtime to decide on a move to Pittodrie.

Calderwood is keen to bring one of his former charges in Byrne to Aberdeen after agreeing a deal with The Pars, but stressed he will not wait forever for the Irishman to make a decision.

"I don't know if it is Richie or his agent that is unhappy with the terms, but they have until lunchtime Monday to come back or we are moving on," Calderwood told the Daily Record.
