Aberdeen boss Steve Paterson has conceded defeat in his bid to bring Argentine striker Fabian Caballero to Pittodrie.

Caballero has become hot property since having his contract cancelled by cash-strapped Dundee earlier in the season.

A host of clubs have expressed interest in the forward, with Portsmouth and Derby handing him trials earlier in the year.

Caballero has expressed a desire to remain in Scotland, but his wage demands have priced him out of a move to Aberdeen.

"Any hope of a deal for him being resurrected has been killed by his wage demands," said Paterson.

"Caballero's agent made it clear he would not drop them to a level we could afford so I no longer see him as a realistic target.

"You would also have to question how committed a player would be if money is the only reason he would want to come to this club."
