ABERDEEN have signed defender Kevin McNaughton to a new three-year contract at Pittodrie.

The 20-year-old had a year to run on his old contract with The Dons and manager Steve Paterson was keen not to let McNaughton leave on a Bosman free next summer.

The defender will now stay with the Scottish Premier League outfit until the summer of 2006 and is pleased to put pen-to-paper on a new deal with the club.

"There has been a bit of speculation in the papers recently so I am glad things have been sorted out," McNaughton told Aberdeen's official website.

Paterson was also delighted to secure the services of the defender for the next three seasons.

"It's a major boost on the eve of the new season getting Kevin signed up," said Paterson.

"He is one of the most promising players at the club and an important part of the squad."
