ABERDEEN defender Russell Anderson is on the brink of a return to regular first-team action after over a year on the sidelines with a knee injury.

The defender, who broke into the Scotland squad the season before last, suffered ligament damage in the Scottish Cup final loss at the hands of Rangers in May 2000, and he has had continued setbacks in his efforts to return.

However he played 20 minutes of The Dons` friendly victory over Fraserburgh, and suffered no adverse reaction.

The 22-year-old established himself as a regular before injury, and his return is sure to be a boost to Dons boss Ebbe Skovdahl.
