ABERDEEN star Russell Anderson has been drafted into the Scotland squad for the forthcoming friendly with France.

Anderson has been brought in as a replacement for crocked stars Tom Boyd and Brian O`Neill, both rated doubtful for the game, and will provide vital cover at the heart of the defence.

Scotland boss Craig Brown took the decision to bring the young Dons` star into the squad after being impressed by Anderson - despite Aberdeen`s heinous start to the season.

Another likely absentee is Leicester City star Matt Elliott, who has rushed to the bedside of his sick new-born child - and will almost certainly not be available to play.

Manager Craig Brown said: "Matt`s three year old youngster is on a life-support machine. He`s now at his son`s side and we are waiting to hear what the latest situation is."
