Rangers are to contest a violent conduct charge against Lee McCulloch, with the hearing to take place on Thursday.

The 36-year-old club captain is accused of deliberately standing on Raith Rovers' Dale Carrick during the Scottish Cup match at Ibrox on Sunday. He was offered a two-match ban by the Scottish FA's compliance officer.

In his notice of complaint, compliance officer Tony McGlennan cited a breach of Disciplinary Rule 200, saying: "In that at the above match you did deliberately stand upon Dale Carrick of Raith Rovers and commit an act of violent conduct."

If found guilty at the Hampden hearing, McCulloch will miss Friday's Championship game against Hibernian and his next Scottish Cup tie.

On-loan Hearts forward Carrick was withdrawn during the second-half after the incident and now faces over a month out after aggravating his hamstring problem.

Hearts head coach Robbie Neilson said: “I’m disappointed for Dale and I’m disappointed for Raith too.

“Dale’s worked so hard to get back to full fitness so it’s a shame that he’ll now be out for six weeks.

“He’s popped his hamstring, so he’ll return here for treatment and we’ll just try to build him up again.”
