Rangers winger Fraser Aird admits the Ibrox crowd had every right to boo the team off the pitch after they were stunned at home by Hibernian.

Hibs were without an away point heading into the game but a double from Jason Cummings and a goal from David Gray – all before half-time – secured a 3-1 win for the visitors.

The result leaves Ally McCoist’s side six points behind Scottish Championship leaders Hearts and Aird admitted the crowd of approximately 31,000 were entitled to make their displeasure known to the Rangers players.

"It's only fair that the fans reacted the way they did,” he said. “They pay their money to come watch us play and the boys were not up to the standard that Rangers players should be in the first half.

"They have the right to be mad, but I think coming out in the second half we did everything we could to right the result. We just didn't have the time to get more goals."

Monday’s defeat marks the second time this season Rangers have failed a test of their title credentials at Ibrox after Hearts earned a 2-1 win there last month.

Hibernian won 3-1 at Ibrox as Rangers were beaten in the Scottish Championship for the first time since the opening day.

"We've lost to our two contenders for the league already at home, but we just need to move on and hope they drop points elsewhere.

"The boys are disappointed. It's not nice when you lose like we did against Hibs. We simply were not good enough in the first half.

“Before they got the first goal I thought it was quite even. The game wasn't going anywhere. But after they scored they got a bit of momentum and went on to score two more goals.

"We came out in the second half and went for it. We got one back but we didn't have the time to get the two other goals we needed.

"To come back from 3-0 down would have been an amazing result but it's done now, and we have to move on to the game against Livingston on Saturday.”
